WFP Procures Over One Million Kilograms of Local Food for Sierra Leone’s School Feeding Programme

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has procured over one million kilograms of locally produced rice and pulses from smallholder farmers across Sierra Leone. The food will support the country’s Home-Grown School Feeding Programme.

The achievement was announced on August 4, 2026, during the launch of the 2026/2027 Home-Grown School Feeding year. The WFP’s procurement of local food is aimed at supporting the school feeding program in Sierra Leone.

According to the WFP, the collected food includes rice and pulses, which were sourced from smallholder farmers across the country. The initiative is part of the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, which aims to provide meals to school children in Sierra Leone.
