**United Nations Establishes International Day to End Child, Early and Forced Marriage**

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution that designates **November 27** as the **International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage**. The resolution was led by Sierra Leone and received the required majority of votes in the General Assembly.

The new observance aims to raise global awareness of the prevalence of child marriage and to encourage governments, civil society and international partners to intensify efforts to end the practice. The day will serve as a platform for advocacy, monitoring progress, and sharing best practices in the fight against child, early and forced marriage.

The resolution was announced by the UN Secretariat on September 7, 2026, following a series of consultations with member states and relevant stakeholders. The day will be observed annually on November 27, with activities planned by the UN and its agencies to highlight the issue and promote policy action.
