According to the Attorney General’s Office of El Salvador, the perpetrators manipulated the victim by claiming that her relatives had performed a spiritual ritual against her. They asserted that the minor needed to engage in sexual acts with Rivera Munguía to ward off evil spirits. The investigation revealed that the defendants used threats and psychological manipulation to ensure the victim remained silent regarding the abuse, which persisted for over a year until the victim disclosed the situation to a family member.
The court sentenced Miguel Isaac Rivera Munguía to 40 years in prison for the crimes of continuous aggravated rape of a minor or incapacitated person and other forms of aggravated sexual assault. Claudia Verónica Cruz Rodríguez received a 30-year prison sentence for her role as a necessary accomplice in the continuous aggravated rape and other aggravated sexual assaults.
