Oswaldo Guillén Announces He Will No Longer Manage in Venezuelan Baseball
Oswaldo Guillén, a prominent figure in Venezuelan baseball, has stated that he will not manage in the country again. In a recent interview on the podcast “El Infield,” Guillén revealed that he was contacted by the Águilas del Zulia team to manage in the upcoming 2026-2027 season, but he rejected the offer.
Guillén explained that his decision is not due to a lack of interest in Venezuelan baseball, but rather the result of his recent experiences as a manager in the country. He mentioned that his time at the helm of the Tiburones de La Guaira and Tigres de Aragua teams was marked by intense experiences, and that both organizations ultimately chose not to continue with his services.
According to Guillén, the Águilas del Zulia team reached out to him, but he was honest with them about his decision not to manage in Venezuela again. “I told them that I was not going to manage in Venezuela and thanked them for the opportunity,” he said.
Guillén expressed that his heart was broken by his recent experiences in Venezuelan baseball, particularly his departure from La Guaira. “They broke my heart without needing to. I was hurt more by my departure from La Guaira than from Aragua,” he stated.
With this announcement, Guillén has effectively closed the door on the possibility of returning to manage in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) under his current circumstances.
