She also recalled a lighter moment when Mr Slinger could not attend her book launch. He told her, “Well, name a drink after me,” and she did. “I smile thinking about it now through the tears,” she wrote.
Thomas expressed gratitude for getting to know Mr Slinger beyond the name, the music, and the legend everyone else knew. “I got to know you as my father-in-law, and that will always be special to me,” she said. She thanked him for loving her and making her feel like she belonged, calling him “the greatest.”
