The Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo announced that seasonal influenza vaccines have arrived and have been distributed to all Family Medicine Centers across the country. Officials say vaccination remains one of the most important measures for protecting the population against the flu. Shani and Suzana Muçaj, who have been receiving the seasonal flu vaccine for a decade, visited the main Family Medicine Center in Prishtina to receive this year’s dose. “I have not had any flu problems; I went through winter very well and I have full confidence in the vaccine,” said Shani Muçaj, a citizen. Suzana Muçaj added, “The vaccine has been very effective and successful for us, especially during the flu season. It provides a great relief.” Other citizens were also waiting in line for vaccination. Nevruz Nushi remarked, “We always get the flu vaccine. Some people doubt it, but it is a safeguard for health and depends on how people view it.” Xhevrije Canolli, head of vaccination at the center, said that 12,000 doses have been planned for the Family Medicine Centers in Prishtina, drawn from a total of 75,000 doses secured by the health authorities. According to doctors, vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent seasonal flu, especially as flu cases have risen significantly during this period. “The flu vaccine is updated each year with the antigens of that year, boosting the body’s immunity against the viruses patients may encounter,” explained Nesrije Paqarada, a family medicine specialist. “This year we have seen almost the same symptom profile in patients: cough, runny nose, and sore throat.” The National Institute of Public Health and the Ministry of Health have urged citizens—particularly the elderly, people with chronic illnesses, and other high‑risk groups—to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza.
