Monaco Blooms with Giant Floral Sports Sculptures for 2025 World Capital of Sport

Monaco has unveiled a stunning series of floral sculptures in public spaces to mark its designation as the World Capital of Sport 2025. The Department of Urban Planning (DAU) designed and built life-sized plant versions of sports equipment, including a Formula 1 car, tennis balls, a basketball, rugby balls, and gymnastics clubs.

The project mobilized the state nursery in Saint-Laurent-d’Èze, with teams sowing 12,000 begonia seeds, transplanting 10,000 plants, and cutting 850 ajuga plants. A total of 8,000 flowers were planted, and the entire effort required about 400 hours of work by eight agents coordinated by two referents.

Work began in late 2024 with seedlings and cuttings. The installations combine horticultural skill with artistic creativity, offering a poetic tribute to sports. Informative panels accompany each display to promote the respective sport.

These floral compositions now adorn Monaco’s public spaces, providing residents and visitors with a vibrant and symbolic spectacle that embodies the spirit of Monaco as the World Capital of Sport 2025.
