A five-member Liberian delegation is in Rwanda to study the country’s post-genocide justice system as Liberia moves to establish its own War and Economic Crimes Court. The team, led by Dr. Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu, Executive Director of the Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia (OWECC-L), will engage with Rwandan officials and institutions. The visit is part of efforts to strengthen transitional justice and hold perpetrators accountable for past atrocities. Liberia has long debated creating a court to address crimes committed during its civil wars. Rwanda’s experience with the Gacaca courts and international tribunals offers lessons on reconciliation and justice.
