Koniec Rybníčkovej éry v Trenčíne. Mesto bude mať po 16 rokoch nového primátora

In the municipal elections held on Saturday, the city of Trenčín elected former deputy mayor Ján Forgáč as its new mayor. Forgáč won 69.17 % of the vote, according to provisional results released by the Statistical Office. Voter turnout in the city was 39.66 %. Forgáč will succeed Richard Rybníček, who had served as mayor for 16 years but did not run in this election. Rybníček, a long‑time city council member, had been a key figure in the administration and publicly endorsed Forgáč’s candidacy. “I cannot imagine that the projects we have started would be carried forward by anyone other than him,” Rybníček said in June. “After 16 years it is time to step down and allow new people to take the lead.” The election featured four independent candidates: Ján Forgáč, Danica Birošová, Michal Bratranec, and Miloš Mičega. Forgáč, 51, has been a member of the city council for the past 16 years and has held positions in the departments of construction, environmental protection, transport, and investment. Since 2014 he has served as the city’s first deputy mayor. Forgáč ran on the platform “Trenčín 2026+,” emphasizing continuity in the city’s development. His priorities include: Transport – completion of the I/61 road bypass in the city centre, extension of the New Road Bridge at the intersection beneath the Juh housing estate, and new connections for the Zámostie district to the motorway. The plan also calls for a bridge to Orechovo, parking facilities, and modernization of the Old Road Bridge. Projects such as the Old Road Bridge upgrade and widening of road II/507 to the Belá commercial zone will require cooperation with the state and the Trenčín regional authority. Housing – construction of rental apartments under the Juh housing estate aimed at young families, a new senior care facility, and a youth club. Environment – further development of the Brezina forest park and city parks, as well as modernization of schools and sports facilities, including the Winter Stadium of Pavol Demitra. Culture – continuation of projects linked to Trenčín’s designation as the European Capital of Culture 2026. Governance – reforms in the city office and municipal companies, including transparent selection processes for directors. Forgáč’s campaign highlighted the importance of transport as the most critical issue for the coming years. He also pledged to support public transport, expand cycling lanes, and regulate parking. The election results were announced by the Statistical Office, and the new mayor will take office in the following months, marking the end of Rybníček’s 16‑year tenure.
