HS: Karu sota-arvio Millariikka Rytköseltä

Millariikka Rytkönen, chairperson of the Finnish Social and Health Care Union (Teh), told Helsingin Sanomat that Finland’s social and health care system is not adequately prepared for war. In a recent interview, Rytkönen said that although separate funding has been directed to welfare regions to support new roles created by the 2024 reforms, the measures are insufficient. Rytkönen argued that the sector lacks enough staff to respond to a wartime scenario. She reiterated a proposal she made last year to channel part of Finland’s increased defence spending into the social and health sector. Specifically, she suggested that 1.5 % of the 5 % of gross domestic product earmarked for defence by NATO should be allocated to social and health care. “Why would the resources at the border benefit us if we don’t have enough people to take care of the wounded?” Rytkönen asked. She emphasized that without sufficient personnel, the system would be unable to meet the demands of a conflict.
