Main Points
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte inaugurated a community-based rehabilitation center for stroke patients in Barangay Tibungco on Tuesday, October 27. The facility is designed to provide specialized recovery services to local residents, aiming to reduce the need for patients to travel to distant hospitals for routine therapy. The inauguration ceremony was held alongside the blessing and turnover of the adjacent Tibungco Super Health Center, which is intended to provide primary health care, including consultations, diagnostic services, and preventive care. During the event, Senator Go highlighted the importance of community-level rehabilitation for stroke survivors, noting that consistent therapy is essential for addressing challenges related to movement, coordination, and speech. He stated that by bringing these services closer to home, the facility aims to alleviate the financial and logistical burdens placed on families and caregivers. “I am pleased that not only is a Super Health Center opening here in Tibungco, but there is now also a rehabilitation center. Patients can now undergo check-ups and rehabilitation here without needing to travel to hospitals,” Go said in a statement. The senator also referenced Republic Act No. 11959, known as the Regional Specialty Centers Act, which mandates the creation of specialized medical centers within Department of Health hospitals across the country. The law is intended to improve access to cardiovascular, brain, and spine care, as well as physical rehabilitation, particularly for populations outside of Metro Manila. While the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City serves as a hub for specialized cardiovascular and medical services, the new Tibungco facility is intended to bolster recovery support at the community level. Go emphasized the necessity of coordination between local government units, health authorities, and medical professionals to ensure that these facilities remain adequately staffed and equipped. The event was attended by several local officials, including Davao City Councilors Richlyn Justol and Danilo Dayanghirang, Barangay Tibungco Captain Merjade Calvo, City Health Officer Dr. Margie Roa-Rubio, and Department of Health Region 11 Assistant Regional Director Grace Amistoso.
