Chris Brown Pleads Guilty to Affray in London Nightclub Brawl, Sentencing in October

American R&B singer Chris Brown pleaded guilty to a public order offence on Friday, closing a chapter on a 2023 nightclub incident in London. Dressed in a beige suit and dark brown tie, the 37-year-old told Southwark Crown Court ‘Guilty’ when the charge of affray was put to him. The plea means Brown will avoid trial on more serious charges—attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon—which will be dropped at a later date. The charges stem from an alleged brawl at Tape, an exclusive private members’ club in London’s Hanover Square, on February 19, 2023. The victim was reportedly struck with a bottle and then punched and kicked. Brown’s co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, also a US national, pleaded guilty to affray as well. Both will be sentenced on October 26. Brown has been out on £5 million ($6.7 million) bail and previously spent nearly a week in jail in May 2025 after his arrest at a Manchester hotel. Judge Tony Baumgartner had earlier allowed him to continue a scheduled tour that began in June in Amsterdam.
