Capturan un hombre tras advertir el FBI sobre amenazas de posibles atentados en Honduras

Honduras authorities arrested a man after the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned of “possible threats of attacks on strategic infrastructure at Puerto Cortés,” the country’s largest port on the Caribbean coast, the government said on Friday. The Honduran Ministry of Security posted on its social media that, “according to the alerts received, an individual had disseminated messages in which he expressed his intention to use explosive devices to damage bridges and port facilities, and indicated possible links to a transnational criminal organization.” The ministry added that “given the nature and seriousness of these threats, specialized teams conducted investigations, identified and detained the individual, who will be subject to the appropriate legal proceedings to determine his potential criminal responsibility and the extent of the threats.” No further details about the operation or the identity of the detainee were released. The ministry emphasized the importance of international cooperation and coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office to prevent threats to national security, protect strategic infrastructure, and respond promptly to potential terrorist risks. The alert follows recent actions by the Honduran Parliament, which approved harsher penalties—including life imprisonment—for gang leaders and the construction of a mega-prison modeled after the Salvadoran system.
