The Bolivian Senate has approved a bill declaring the construction of an alternate highway between La Paz and Cochabamba a national priority. The legislation, passed in full on Thursday, targets the route connecting Rio Abajo in La Paz with Quillacollo in Cochabamba.
The bill now heads to the executive branch for enactment. Proponents say the highway will strengthen integration of the Red Vial Fundamental, Bolivia’s primary road network, improving connectivity and economic ties between the two regions.
The project is expected to ease traffic on existing routes and support regional development. Details on funding and construction timelines have not yet been released.
