«Доведеться пережити ще одну зиму»: військовий аналітик про перспективу завершення війни в Україні

According to British military analyst Michael Clarke, the war in Ukraine is likely to continue until Russian President Vladimir Putin is somehow removed from power. Clarke stated that Putin is determined to continue the war and will not back down.

In recent months, the Moscow-led war in Ukraine has lost momentum as Kyiv has developed a successful strategy of deep strikes and increased internal costs for Russian society. However, Clarke believes that Russian oligarchs, who are growing increasingly nervous about the situation, may pressure Putin to accept a ceasefire proposal.

Clarke suggested that a partial ceasefire in the fall is a possible scenario, where Russia would reduce the level of attacks and the overall seriousness of the war. However, he warned that Ukrainians may have to endure another winter before the war can take a strategic turn.

The prospect of Putin’s “retreat” depends on the position taken by former US President Donald Trump and the United States, according to Clarke. He stated that if Trump’s legacy is otherwise failing, he may return to the issue of Ukraine and try to find a way to push Putin towards an agreement. Clarke emphasized that Putin will not back down from the war, as he is fixated on continuing it.

The analyst’s comments come amid reports that Putin aims to bomb Kyiv before winter, leaving people without light and heat. Clarke’s assessment is that the war will continue until Putin is removed from power in some way.
