UCOM Opens New Academic and Student Activity Centre Hong Kong – The University of Hong Kong, Macao (UCOM) officially opened its new “University Centre” (UCOM) on 30 October 2026. The 35,000‑square‑foot facility, located at the Aimin Plaza in Ho Man Tin, provides expanded teaching, research and student activity spaces to support the university’s goal of cultivating professional, application‑oriented talent and promoting holistic student development. In a statement, President Liu Qunsheng said the centre will enrich campus life and contribute to the university’s long‑term growth. “As an applied science university, UCOM will fully leverage the new spaces to offer students a richer, more diverse range of practical learning opportunities,” Liu added. The centre includes several specialised units: Technology Training Centre – 10,000 square feet of shared maker space and research rooms. It houses precision instruments for analytical chemistry, building management, material testing, robotics and automation engineering, providing students with hands‑on experience and advanced equipment. Sports Performance Analysis Lab – Equipped with high‑end smart treadmills, cardiopulmonary metabolic analysers, professional weight‑training systems and a range of biomechanics and neuromuscular assessment tools. The lab supports research into explosive power, balance, speed, reaction time and athlete functional testing. Simulation Flight Lab – A flight‑simulation training room for students enrolled in the “Aviation Service Management with Honours in Business Administration” programme. The lab is expected to become operational in early 2027. Student Activity and Exchange Spaces – Areas designed for social interaction and collaboration. Graduate Research Space – Dedicated rooms for postgraduate research projects. UCOM also announced that it will continue to expand campus facilities to accommodate its growing student body. The university admitted 3,500 first‑year undergraduate students this academic year, marking a five‑year consecutive increase and setting a new record. The total number of full‑time students has surpassed 20,000 for the first time. The centre’s opening is part of UCOM’s broader strategy to enhance learning environments and research capabilities in response to rising enrolments and evolving academic needs.
