Azerbaijan, Pakistan expand cooperation in literature and science

The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and the Pakistan Academy of Letters are expanding their collaboration in the fields of literature and science. Academician Isa Habibbeyli, president of ANAS, met with Professor Najeeba Arif, president of the Pakistan Academy of Letters, to discuss strengthening these academic and literary ties.

During the meeting, Habibbeyli emphasized the historical relationship between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, noting that the close ties between the two nations’ leadership have facilitated cooperation across various sectors, including scientific research. He highlighted that ANAS has actively engaged in research regarding Pakistani literature as part of this ongoing partnership.

The collaboration has already resulted in several translation projects. The Institute of Literature at ANAS has translated the selected works of Muhammad Iqbal into Azerbaijani. Conversely, the Azerbaijani epic Kitabi-Dada Gorgud and Habibbeyli’s book, The Great Azerbaijani Poet Nizami Ganjavi, have been translated into Urdu and presented in Pakistan. Additionally, works by the Pakistani Sufi poet Sultan Bahu have been translated by the Institute of Literature and are currently awaiting publication.

ANAS currently maintains institutional relationships with several Pakistani organizations, including the Pakistan Academy of Letters, Lahore College University, the Pakistan Muslim Institute, and Sindh University. The two countries have also established dedicated literature centers: the Pakistan Literature Centre operates within the Institute of Literature of ANAS, while the Azerbaijan Literature Centre is based at Lahore College University.

Looking forward, Habibbeyli proposed hosting a joint event during the 12th Baku International Book Fair, scheduled for October. Professor Arif expressed support for the initiative, noting that such events are essential for deepening academic cooperation. She also confirmed that the Pakistan Academy of Letters is currently working on a translation project concerning the history of Azerbaijani literature.
