Somalia Sends Two Students to International Quran Competition in Saudi Arabia

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali government has sent two students to participate in an international Quran competition in Saudi Arabia. The students, Mohamed Nur Mohamed Ibrahim and Muna Abdirahman Mohamed Sabriye, were selected after winning a national Quran competition held during Ramadan.

The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs organized a farewell ceremony for the students on Friday. Mohamed Nur Mohamed Ibrahim will compete in the category of memorizing the 30th chapter of the Quran, while Muna Abdirahman Mohamed Sabriye will compete in the category of memorizing the 15th chapter.

Both students took first place in their respective categories at the national competition, which was also organized by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. According to ministry officials, Somalia’s participation in the international competition reflects the country’s efforts to promote Quranic education, strengthen the skills of Quran teachers, and encourage young people to excel in memorization and Tajweed, the rules governing Quranic recitation.

Somali participants have achieved notable results in regional and international Quran competitions in recent years, contributing to the country’s growing profile in Quranic education and memorization. The international competition in Saudi Arabia is scheduled to take place, although the exact dates were not specified.
