Typhoon 25, currently moving north‑west across Japan, is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Chiba Prefecture on September 21.
According to the Choshi Local Meteorological Office, the prefecture will experience thunderstorm‑associated heavy rain from the early hours of September 20 through September 21. The 1‑hour rainfall forecast for September 20 is 40 mm in the northwest, northeast, and southern regions.
Pre‑event rainfall totals for the 24‑hour period from 6 p.m. on September 19 to 6 p.m. on September 20 are projected at 100 mm in the northwest and 150 mm in the northeast and south. From 6 p.m. on September 20 to 6 p.m. on September 21, the entire prefecture is expected to receive 300 mm of rain. An additional 200 mm is forecast for the period from 6 p.m. on September 21 to 6 p.m. on September 22.
Early warning information indicates that a heavy‑rain alert may be issued at a moderate level on September 20 and at a high level from September 21 to 22. Landslide warnings are moderate from the morning of September 20 and high from the evening of September 20 onward. A storm warning is also likely from September 21 to 22.
Typhoon 25 is expected to strengthen slightly before reaching Chiba. On September 21, maximum wind speeds of 35 m/s (about 126 km/h) with gusts up to 50 m/s (180 km/h) are forecast over the northeast and the Izu and Abukuma seas. On land, the northeast and Izu/Abukuma areas may see maximum sustained winds of 25 m/s (90 km/h) with gusts up to 35 m/s (126 km/h). The northwest and Kimitsu regions are projected to experience maximum sustained winds of 18 m/s (65 km/h) with gusts up to 30 m/s (108 km/h).
