WATCH: New Auckland City Rail Link in New Zealand – A century in the making

New Auckland City Rail Link to Open in September

After 11 years of construction, New Zealand’s largest transport infrastructure project, the City Rail Link (CRL) in Auckland, is set to open next month. The estimated $5.5 billion project is a 3.45-kilometer twin-tunnel underground rail system that connects three new stations in the country’s largest city.

The City Rail Link is expected to begin operations on September 13, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the city’s transportation network. The project has been in the making for over a century, with construction finally coming to an end after more than a decade of work.

The CRL is expected to improve transportation links in Auckland, providing passengers with a more efficient and convenient way to travel around the city. With its opening, the city’s rail network will be expanded, inviting passengers to use the new system from September 13 onwards.
