Former England international footballer Andros Townsend avoided serious injury after being struck and briefly run over by a pitch roller during a warm-up session in Thailand. The incident occurred on Saturday during a Thai League One match between PT Prachuap and Pattani FC.
Townsend, a former Tottenham Hotspur winger, was participating in half-time warm-ups with his PT Prachuap teammates when a grounds staff member drove the heavy machinery onto the pitch. According to reports, Townsend had moved away from his teammates to attempt an aerial backheel and inadvertently stepped into the path of the moving roller.
The machine struck Townsend’s legs, knocking him to the ground before passing over him. The vehicle stopped near his hip area, which prevented more severe injuries. Teammates immediately rushed to assist him as he emerged from beneath the equipment.
Despite the collision, Townsend was able to continue and later entered the match as a stoppage-time substitute. PT Prachuap secured a 3-0 victory over Pattani FC. This appearance marked Townsend’s third for the club since he joined the team during the summer.
