Ajit Agarkar will not seek an extension as the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee when his current contract concludes on October 4. His departure was a primary topic of discussion during the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s 95th Annual General Meeting.
Following the meeting, a senior BCCI official confirmed that the board’s office-bearers have been authorized to make decisions regarding the composition of the selection committees. The AGM was attended by representatives from various affiliated state associations, including former India captain Sourav Ganguly and former pacer Venkatesh Prasad.
In addition to the senior committee, the BCCI is currently working to appoint five new members to the junior selection committee. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that the board has received a high volume of applications and aims to finalize the appointments within the next 10 to 15 days, as the tenures of the current junior selectors are nearing their end.
Regarding the national team’s coaching staff, Saikia confirmed that Subhadeep Ghosh has been appointed as the fielding coach on a short-term basis. The board intends to evaluate Ghosh’s performance and consult with team management before deciding whether to extend his tenure.
