TTOC names four athletes for Dakar Youth Olympics across three sports

Four young athletes will represent Trinidad and Tobago in badminton, boxing and swimming at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, with their competition scheduled to begin on November 1, according to the Trinidad Express.

Samiya Karim, Makieve Bellille, Jaden Mills and Breanna Belmar form the athletic contingent. The nine-member delegation, which includes five officials, is scheduled to leave Trinidad and Tobago on October 25 for the Games in Senegal.

The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee’s Executive Board and Council ratified the delegation, which will be led by Chef de Mission Jariel Mc Collin.

Karim will contest the girls’ singles badminton competition, with Zeudi Mack serving as coach and manager. Bellille will compete in the men’s 65-kilogramme boxing category under coach Wendell Johku.

In the pool, Mills is entered in the 50-metre butterfly, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke. Belmar will swim the 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle. Dexter Browne will serve as swimming coach and manager, while physiotherapist Verne Alleyne completes the delegation’s support team.

TTOC president Diane Henderson described the Games as an important stage in the athletes’ development. She said international competition would give them opportunities to build confidence and experience while demonstrating discipline, determination and sportsmanship.

Henderson also expressed the committee’s pride in the athletes and encouraged the public to support them as they prepare to represent the country.

Mc Collin said preparations were focused on helping the athletes meet the opportunities and challenges of competition at this level. He emphasised that the experience would extend beyond results, with learning, personal development and national representation also central to the delegation’s participation.

For the four athletes, the next scheduled steps are departure on October 25 and the start of competition on November 1, when they will test themselves against international opposition in their respective events.
