Trinidad and Tobago’s Meteorological Service has issued a Yellow‑level Hot Spell Alert for the final two months of the 2026 heat season, covering September and October. The alert, released on 23 September at 3:06 PM, remains in effect from 24 September 2:00 PM through 31 October 4:00 PM.
A Hot Spell is defined as a minimum of five consecutive days when maximum temperatures reach or exceed 34 °C in Trinidad and 33 °C in Tobago. Forecasts indicate that daytime highs will regularly hit 34 °C or higher in Trinidad and 33 °C or higher in Tobago, especially during periods of clear skies.
Temperatures between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm will be the most intense, with urban heat islands further raising the “feels‑like” range to 34 °C–44 °C. El Niño influences are expected to reduce cloud cover and rainfall, amplifying heat stress across the islands.
Officials advise older adults, children, those with pre‑existing health conditions, outdoor workers and anyone engaged in strenuous activity to stay well‑hydrated, limit outdoor exposure during peak hours, and seek shade or cool environments when possible.
