Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has identified a potential competition between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad for reserve spots in India’s squad for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Chopra also addressed the exclusion of Rishabh Pant from the white-ball setup. While acknowledging Pant’s continued importance in the Test format, as evidenced by his appointment as captain of the Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup, Chopra suggested that the current selection committee appears to have moved on from him regarding ODI cricket.
Regarding the team’s all-rounders, Chopra highlighted the inclusion of Nitish Kumar Reddy, suggesting the team is looking for options to provide pace bowling and batting depth in the potential absence of Hardik Pandya. He further noted that with Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar all competing for spots, the upcoming matches will be critical for players to secure their positions ahead of the World Cup.
