This Website Tracks How Many Trams Are Still Running Without Air Conditioning

**PRAGUE —** A new website has been launched to provide residents of Prague with live data on the proportion of the city’s trams operating without air conditioning during the summer months.

The website, developed by Christoph Korb, is named Smrdime.cz. The name is a play on the Czech word *smrdíme*, meaning “we stink,” in reference to the uncomfortable conditions passengers experience inside overheated vehicles.

Using live data, the platform calculates the share of Prague’s active tram fleet lacking air conditioning. Because vehicles constantly enter and leave service throughout the day, the figures change continuously.

On Thursday, August 13, as temperatures in Prague reached approximately 37 degrees Celsius, the website tracked 188 out of 256 operating trams—or about 71 percent of the active fleet—running without air conditioning. Out of 147 available air-conditioned trams, 77 were in operation at the same time.

The project highlights a long-standing challenge for Prague’s public transport system regarding the composition of its fleet during periods of high heat.
