Seattle Storm forward Ezi Magbegor will miss the remainder of the WNBA season after sustaining an ACL tear while competing for Australia in the FIBA Women’s World Cup. The Seattle Storm announced the injury on Thursday.
Magbegor, 27, suffered the injury during a game on Wednesday, in which Australia defeated Italy 82-80 to secure a spot in the tournament quarterfinals. Australia was subsequently eliminated from the competition following an 89-66 loss to Spain on Thursday.
Basketball Australia confirmed in a statement that Magbegor will require surgery. The governing body stated that the Australian Opals organization is supporting Magbegor as she begins her recovery process.
Magbegor has faced multiple health challenges during the current WNBA season, having previously missed time due to a foot injury and a facial fracture. She made her season debut on July 2 and has appeared in 14 games, including nine starts, averaging 6.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
Throughout her seven-season WNBA career, all spent with the Seattle Storm, Magbegor has maintained career averages of 9.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. She is a one-time All-Star and has been named to the All-Defensive Team four times.
The Seattle Storm currently hold an 8-32 record and are in last place in the WNBA standings. The team has been eliminated from playoff contention and has four games remaining in the season following the conclusion of the World Cup break.
