Slovenia defeated Israel 4-0 in a Davis Cup tennis tie held on September 18-19 at the Tennis Academy Breskvar in Ljubljana. The loss relegates the Israeli team to the World Group II playoffs, which are scheduled for February 2027.
The two-day event featured four matches played on outdoor clay courts. In the opening singles match, Slovenia’s Bor Artnak, ranked 511, defeated Israel’s Amit Vales, ranked 589, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. The second match saw Slovenia’s top player, Filip Planinšek, ranked 491, overcome Orel Kimhi, ranked 716. After trailing in the first set, Planinšek won the tie-breaker 7-2 and secured the second set 6-1.
Slovenia clinched the overall victory during Saturday’s doubles match. The Israeli pair of Daniel Cuckierman and Ofek Shimanov faced Sebastian Dominko and Ziga Sesko in a contest lasting two hours and 21 minutes. Although the Israeli team secured their only set of the tournament, they ultimately fell 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.
Following the clinching victory, a final singles match was played, in which Sebastian Dominko defeated Ben Weintraub 6-3, 6-3 in one hour.
Prior to the competition, Israel Tennis Association CEO Danny Perkalsky expressed optimism regarding the team’s performance and their goal of advancing to World Group I. Despite the outcome, Perkalsky noted the significance of the national team’s participation in the Davis Cup.
