Russian Still Taught in French Schools Despite Teacher Recruitment Freeze

A viral social media post claiming that the Russian language is no longer taught in France has been debunked. The claim, which spread rapidly online, asserted that Russian courses had been eliminated from the French education system. However, while it is true that in 2026 no teaching posts for Russian were offered in the national recruitment exams (concours), courses still exist at the collège and lycée levels. The French Ministry of Education confirmed that existing teachers continue to provide instruction, and the language remains part of the curriculum. The post’s inaccuracy highlights the ease with which educational policy can be misrepresented online.
