Patrick Stewart, the legendary British actor best known for playing Captain Jean‑Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, died at the age of 86 on Wednesday in his Los Angeles home. According to his spokesperson, Kelly Bush Novak, Stewart had been battling Alzheimer’s disease and dementia for a short period before his death. The actor’s passing was confirmed by the Daily Mail, which reported that he had been ill for some time. Stewart’s career spanned more than five decades, during which he earned international acclaim for his work on television, film and stage. His most iconic role was that of the dignified Starfleet officer in Star Trek: The Next Generation, which aired from 1987 to 1994.
