Ontario’s Police Watchdog Investigates Fatal Shooting in Brockville
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the death of a 28-year-old man who was fatally shot by police in Brockville, Ontario. According to the SIU, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers went to a home in Brockville around 8 p.m. on Thursday to carry out a search.
Upon entering the home, police encountered the man, and one officer fired a shot, hitting him. The man was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The OPP had been assisting local police with the search.
The SIU has assigned four investigators and two forensic investigators to the case. An autopsy is scheduled to take place on Saturday. The SIU is responsible for investigating incidents involving police officers that result in death or serious injury.
The incident occurred south of Ottawa, and the SIU is working to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. The OPP has confirmed that they were involved in the search, but further details have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
