The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has revoked the operating licences of three vehicle inspection centres in Nonthaburi following the discovery of fraudulent roadworthiness certificates. Regulators identified the violations during investigations conducted in July and August.
According to the DLT, the centres issued certificates that did not correspond to the vehicles presented for inspection. In several instances, certificates were issued without any physical inspection of the vehicle taking place. As a result of these findings, the identity cards of seven supervisors responsible for the inspections have been cancelled.
Thitipat Thaijongrak, director of the DLT’s automotive engineering office and department spokesperson, confirmed that the Nonthaburi Transport Office has been instructed to file criminal complaints against those involved. The charges fall under sections 76 and 158 of the Land Transport Act 1979, which carry penalties of up to two years in prison and fines of up to 40,000 baht.
Under current regulations, operators who have had their licences revoked are prohibited from reapplying for five years, while inspectors whose cards have been cancelled must wait three years before they can reapply. This action brings the total number of inspection centres closed nationwide to 87.
The DLT has directed provincial offices to increase oversight through site visits and regular record audits. Officials emphasized that vehicle inspections are critical to public safety and must be conducted transparently. Members of the public who suspect a centre of issuing certificates without performing inspections are encouraged to report the activity via the DLT hotline at 1584.
