The 31st National Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) concluded in Central Java on Saturday, September 19, 2026, with the host province securing second place in the national rankings. Taj Yasin Maimoen, Deputy Governor of Central Java and General Chairman of the Central Java Institute for Tilawatil Qur’an Development (LPTQ), stated that the competition should serve as a catalyst for long-term development rather than being viewed solely as a quest for victory. He emphasized the need for continuous efforts in participant recruitment, the professional development of coaches and judges, and the strengthening of educational institutions focused on the Quran.
The event, held at the Simpang Lima Pancasila Field in Semarang, hosted 2,242 participants from 37 provinces competing across 12 venues. The competition featured eight branches, 24 divisions, and 48 categories, alongside supplementary events such as international seminars, manuscript exhibitions, and exhibitions for participants with hearing and speech disabilities.
To support religious education, the Central Java Provincial Government has implemented a financial incentive program for Quranic memorizers. In 2026, the government allocated 2 billion rupiah to support 2,000 individuals who have completed the memorization of the Quran. This initiative is part of a broader strategy that includes scholarships for students and support for over 5,000 Islamic boarding schools in the region.
Taj Yasin highlighted the importance of synergy between national, provincial, and regional LPTQ branches to standardize training, selection processes, and judging systems. He also called for increased regional government support through institutional policies and budgetary allocations to ensure that Quranic education remains a consistent priority beyond the MTQ event cycle.
Reflecting on the competition, Taj Yasin stressed the necessity of maintaining the integrity and transparency of the judging process. He noted that feedback from the event would be utilized to improve future iterations of the national competition.
