MRA touts improved tax compliance

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has reported an improvement in tax compliance and a boost in government revenue, two years after introducing the Kalondola Tax Stamps system.

According to Wilma Chalulu, MRA Head of Corporate Affairs, the system has led to significant growth in excise tax collections. Some manufacturers have seen increases of up to 200 percent in their excise tax collections.

The MRA attributes this growth to the effectiveness of the Kalondola Tax Stamps system, which was introduced to enhance tax compliance and revenue collection. The authority has noted a positive impact on government revenue as a result of the system’s implementation.
