Western Province Experiences Rise in Deaths from Illicit Brews
In the Western Province of Rwanda, 18 people have died in the past three months after consuming illicit brews, according to Jean Bosco Ntibitura, the Governor of the Western Province.
Governor Ntibitura announced the deaths, stating that they occurred over the course of the past three months. Rwanda has been working to implement measures to combat the production and consumption of illicit brews. As part of these efforts, breweries that produce such brews, including those known as “Ibyuma”, have been shut down and banned from selling their products on the market.
The Governor discussed the issue in an interview, highlighting the need to address the problem of illicit brews in the region.
