A man and a woman, both aged in their 70s, have died following a two-car crash in Co Louth. The collision occurred on the R173 at The Bush shortly before 3:10pm on Thursday. The driver and a female passenger in one car were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were removed to Louth County Hospital for postmortem examinations. The driver of the second car, a man in his 30s, and a female passenger, also in her 30s, were airlifted to Beaumont Hospital and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Gardaí have appointed a family liaison officer to support the bereaved family and have notified the Coroner. The road has since reopened. Investigating gardaí are appealing to anyone who travelled on the R173 between Dundalk and Carlingford between 2:30pm and 3:30pm on Thursday. They are particularly keen to speak to anyone with dash cam or mobile phone footage.
