Kuwait has implemented new regulations restricting the involvement of journalists, media figures, and celebrities in Hajj campaigns. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs issued the directive to licensed Hajj operators as part of preparations for the 1448 AH pilgrimage season.
Under the new rules, media personnel participating in the Hajj season in a professional capacity must be part of the accredited media team accompanying Kuwait’s official Hajj mission. These individuals are prohibited from being registered as administrative or organizational staff for private Hajj companies. The ministry stated that these measures are intended to distinguish between media work and the operational duties of pilgrimage operators.
The directive also explicitly bans journalists and celebrities from using their social media accounts to commercially promote Hajj companies while in Saudi Arabia. The ministry noted that these requirements are based on instructions from Saudi authorities to ensure better organization of the pilgrimage.
Licensed operators have been instructed to ensure that all personnel lists and staff assignments comply with these regulations. The ministry warned that operators will be held accountable for any violations. These rules follow ongoing coordination between Kuwaiti and Saudi authorities regarding the management of pilgrimage services and logistics for Kuwaiti pilgrims.
