JCE facilitará registro de nacimiento a mayores de 60 años que tienen cédula

The Junta Central Electoral (JCE) has approved a new procedure to help citizens over 60 years old who possess an identity card but do not have a birth certificate on file with the Registro Civil. The measure, adopted on 26 October 2026, allows eligible individuals to recover, reconstruct or update missing or damaged birth records at no cost. Under the new protocol, the JCE will use biometric data collected during identity card renewal processes to verify applicants’ information. The administrative mechanism is designed to streamline the process, reducing the need for applicants to travel to civil registry offices. The initiative targets those whose birth records are absent from the system, cannot be located, or whose original documents have been destroyed or severely deteriorated. By providing a free, simplified procedure, the JCE aims to resolve the difficulties faced by many older adults who encounter obstacles when renewing their identity cards due to the lack of a linked birth certificate.
