Investigacion preliminar ta mustra UN STORING DEN SISTEMA ELECTRICO NA WEB A CAUSA BLACKOUT DI DIA 5 DI NOVEMBER

On 5 November 2023, a widespread power outage struck Oranjestad, Aruba, affecting the island’s electrical supply for approximately two hours and 23 minutes. The blackout began at about 2:00 p.m. and was fully resolved by 4:23 p.m., restoring 100 % of the island’s electricity. Preliminary reports indicate that the outage was triggered by a fault in the electrical system during routine high‑voltage testing at the RECIP IV power plant. The fault caused a loss of connection with two transformers that supply the plant’s motors. While the motors were operating at the time of the fault, they lost a substantial amount of current, which led to the blackout. Not all motors failed; some continued to operate, allowing production and power supply to resume after roughly one hour. WEB Aruba and ELMAR, the island’s utility and energy companies, communicated updates to the public through social media during the outage. Both companies have expressed awareness of the impact on community welfare and the local economy. The water and energy company issued an apology and thanked residents for their understanding, while also acknowledging the rapid response of WEB’s team in restoring full power and ELMAR’s efforts to ensure each customer received electricity again. An in‑depth investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fault. In the meantime, production at the RECIP IV plant remains stable, but the companies have announced that they will maintain heightened vigilance over operations.
