Hyundai shows its dark side

Hyundai has introduced new “BLK Edition” variants for its Kona and Tucson hybrid SUVs, which are scheduled to arrive in Australian showrooms this month. Based on the existing Elite trim levels, these special editions feature dark exterior styling enhancements and upgraded interior equipment, including Bose premium audio systems. The BLK Edition models carry a $2,650 price premium over their standard Elite counterparts. Both vehicles are configured with two-wheel drive. Hyundai has confirmed a production run of 750 units for the Tucson BLK Edition, which will be sourced from Vietnam, differing from the rest of the local Tucson line-up that is manufactured in South Korea. No specific production volume was provided for the Kona BLK Edition. The Kona BLK Edition is priced from $42,600 (excluding on-road costs), compared to the $39,950 starting price of the Kona Elite hybrid. Atlas White is the standard paint color, with other premium paint options available for an additional $595. The Tucson BLK Edition starts at $51,000 (excluding on-road costs), compared to the $48,350 price of the Tucson Elite hybrid. Pearl White Mica is standard, with premium paint options costing an additional $750. Both the Kona and Tucson are currently nearing the end of their respective lifecycles. A new-generation Tucson has been unveiled ahead of a planned Australian launch in mid-2027, and a new-generation Kona has been observed in testing. The Kona BLK Edition includes 18-inch black alloy wheels, Bose premium audio, satellite navigation, a digital instrument cluster, a black window beltline, Shadow Grey front bumper garnish, silver front and rear skid plates, black window surrounds and pillars, and black exterior badging. The Tucson BLK Edition features 19-inch black alloy wheels, Bose premium audio, a black window beltline, black front and rear bumper garnish, and black exterior badging.
