A businessman in Guyana has been granted bail following charges of attempted abduction. Avishkar Singh, a 36-year-old resident of 208 Alexander Village, Greater Georgetown, was charged with the offense that allegedly occurred on June 30, 2026. The individual identified as the alleged victim is Joshua Samaroo.
On Friday, Singh was granted bail in the amount of GY$1 million after a hearing that lasted over an hour before Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty. Singh’s defense lawyer, Joel Persid-Edmond, argued in court that the charge against his client was “incorrect” and suggested that it was part of a plot to set him up, which he claimed had failed.
The case is scheduled to return to court on July 29, 2026. Prior to the charges being filed, the Guyana Police Force had classified the incident as an attempted kidnapping. According to police reports, Singh allegedly made arrangements and provided a sum of cash as part payment for the kidnapping of a male individual. Following these actions, he was arrested and taken into custody, with a quantity of cash reportedly lodged by the police.
Further updates on this case are expected as it progresses through the legal system. For more information, readers can subscribe to Demerara Waves Online News for the latest updates.
