The president of the Angolan Hunters Association (ACA), Mário Ribeiro, has described poaching in the country as ‘grave,’ following two recent incidents involving the killing of rhinos in Cunene province. Speaking to Lusa news agency, Ribeiro highlighted an attempted poaching of three female white rhinos inside a farm in Cahama municipality in June. The perpetrators, armed with AK-47 rifles, were confronted but the incident underscores the escalating threat. Ribeiro called for urgent action to combat illegal hunting, warning that wildlife conservation efforts are at risk. The association is pressing authorities to strengthen anti-poaching measures and enforce penalties.
