**Ghana Reappoints Carlos Queiroz as National Team Head Coach**

The Ghana Football Association announced that Carlos Queiroz will resume his role as head coach of the Black Stars, effective from the current international window. The decision follows Queiroz’s brief departure from the position after Ghana’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz was first appointed in April 2026, succeeding Otto Addo. Under his guidance, Ghana reached the round of 32 at the World Cup, where the team was eliminated by Colombia with a 1‑0 defeat in July. After the tournament, Queiroz posted on social media that he was leaving the role with “pride.”
In a statement released on Thursday, the GFA confirmed that Queiroz’s previous mandate had concluded a few weeks earlier. “Following discussions with the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, it was agreed that Carlos Queiroz would embark on a new coaching mandate, commencing with the upcoming international window,” the association said. The statement added that Queiroz’s extensive international experience and technical expertise positioned him well to lead the team into the next chapter.
Ghana’s upcoming fixtures include Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying matches against Ivory Coast on 23 September and Gambia on 27 September, as well as two matches against Somalia on 11 and 15 November.
Queiroz, 73, has a long history of international coaching. He led Iran at the 2014, 2018, and 2022 World Cups and Portugal at the 2010 tournament, where the Portuguese side reached the round of 16 before losing to Spain. Born in Mozambique, Queiroz is a Portuguese national. His previous national‑team appointments include the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Colombia, Egypt, Qatar, and Oman. At club level, he has managed Sporting CP (Portugal), the New York/New Jersey Metrostars (MLS), and Real Madrid (Spain). He also served as assistant manager to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United during 2002‑2003 and 2004‑2008.
The GFA’s decision to reappoint Queiroz comes as Ghana prepares for its next set of international fixtures and looks to build on the progress made during the World Cup campaign.
