Five additional deaths attributed to dengue fever were reported in Bangladesh in the 24-hour period ending Thursday morning, bringing the total number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 176 for the year 2026. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest victims included two men and three women.
Geographically, four of the recent deaths occurred within the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area, while one death was recorded in the Rangpur division. Health officials also reported 1,484 new hospitalizations due to the viral fever during the same 24-hour window, bringing the total number of recorded cases in 2026 to 58,400.
The distribution of the 1,484 new cases is as follows: 252 in Khulna division, 227 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 211 in Barishal division, 207 in DNCC, 192 in Chattogram division, 190 in Dhaka division, 102 in Rajshahi division, 64 in Mymensingh division, 35 in Rangpur division, and four in Sylhet division.
Data provided by the DGHS indicates that men account for 62.5% of total infections this year, while women account for 37.5%. Regarding fatalities, women represent 52.6% of the deaths, with men accounting for 47.4%.
Official records show that Bangladesh reported 102,861 dengue cases and 413 deaths in 2025, following 101,214 infections and 575 deaths in 2024. The country experienced its most severe outbreak on record in 2023, which resulted in 321,179 hospitalizations and 1,705 deaths.
