Filipe Luis Starts AS Monaco Tenure with 5-2 Friendly Win Over Saint-Priest

Filipe Luis took charge of his first match as AS Monaco head coach on Saturday morning, leading the team to a 5-2 victory over National 1 side Saint-Priest at the Performance Centre in La Turbie. The friendly, part of the club’s pre-season preparations, saw the Brazilian manager field two completely different lineups in each half, using a total of 24 players.

Monaco dominated the first half, taking a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from Dier and a stunning free kick from Aleksandr Golovin. Youngster Mathys Detourbet impressed in a supporting role, while Pape Cabral showed maturity in midfield. At halftime, Luis changed the entire team, handing the captain’s armband to Paul Pogba.

The second half saw Paris Brunner shine with a brace, including a superb curled effort from the left side. The final goal came via an own goal from Saint-Priest following a cross by Konaté. However, goalkeeper Lienard, who replaced Hradecky, was unconvincing and was at fault for both Saint-Priest goals. Pogba, playing as a defensive midfielder, played simply and appeared lacking match fitness.

Overall, Luis will be pleased with the attacking output but aware of defensive frailties as the team continues their pre-season campaign.
