A man in Szatymaz has been taken into custody on suspicion of human trafficking and forced labor. According to a statement from the Hungarian police, the suspect exploited a man who lacked housing by forcing him to perform manual labor on a farm.
Authorities reported that the victim was required to tend to livestock and complete various tasks around the property without receiving any payment. The suspect allegedly housed the victim in a disused boiler room that lacked a door.
Investigators stated that the suspect also confiscated the victim’s personal identification and medical documents, refusing to return them upon request. Police recovered these documents during an on-site inspection of the property.
The suspect was interrogated and detained following his arrest. The Csongrad-Csanad County Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department is currently handling the ongoing case.
