El partido de Flávio Bolsonaro reconoce la victoria de Lula da Silva en Brasil

São Paulo – The Brazilian Liberal Party (Partido Liberal, PL), the political force that fielded ultra‑right‑wing Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, formally acknowledged the results of the presidential election that confirmed the re‑election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In a letter posted on the PL’s social‑media accounts, party president Valdemar Costa Neto said the party “recognizes the result proclaimed by the Superior Electoral Court,” while requesting that the “questioning raised” be “properly clarified.” The PL did not name Lula in the statement. Lula won the second round held on Sunday with 52 % of the vote, compared with 48 % for Bolsonaro. The margin of victory was more than four million votes, a reversal of the first‑round result on 4 October, when Bolsonaro had led by two percentage points. Bolsonaro refused to accept the defeat and announced that he would seek to annul the election after the Supreme Court extended the voting day at the request of the incumbent administration. He has also said he will pursue judicial action to invalidate Lula’s candidacy on the grounds of alleged abuses, including a “complex of fake news” created by the official campaign and unprecedented political and economic power abuses. The PL’s statement noted that increased public spending and social benefits implemented by Lula’s government before the election had “conditioned the fairness of the contest” and that the party would demand explanations within the institutional framework. It added that, although Bolsonaro had won the first round, the outcome of the second round was “different, in a scenario marked by strongly electoralist measures with economic and social impact.” Despite the loss, the PL highlighted its legislative gains, reporting a “historic” bloc of 121 federal deputies, 29 senators and six governors. In a video released on Monday, Flávio Bolsonaro said he would “organize the opposition” to turn the lower house and the Senate into a “fortress against barbarism” that he expects will arise with four more years of Lula.
