Egyptian healthtech startup Reme-D has secured $1.45 million in a Pre-Series A funding round to expand production of its molecular diagnostic tests and grow its footprint across Africa. The round was led by Anara Impact Capital, with participation from the Global Innovation Fund, Africa Health Ventures, and other investors.
Founded in 2023 by Salma Tammam, the Cairo-based company develops diagnostic tests for diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis, and human papillomavirus. Its products are designed to remain stable at higher temperatures, reducing the need for cold-chain storage—a critical advantage in remote areas with limited healthcare infrastructure.
Since its launch, Reme-D has commercialized 30 diagnostic products and supplied more than 550,000 tests across Egypt, Kenya, and Sudan. It also recently equipped a solar-powered mobile laboratory commissioned by the World Health Organization’s Egypt office to monitor vector-borne diseases.
The new funding will support a move into a 1,500-square-meter manufacturing facility, increasing production capacity tenfold. The company also plans to expand into diagnostics for genetic diseases and cancer.
Africa imports most of its diagnostic equipment, leaving it vulnerable to supply chain disruptions and high costs. Reme-D’s local manufacturing aims to shorten delivery times, reduce costs, and improve access to advanced testing for major public health challenges.
