Dubbele winst voor Suriname in Fifa U-15 World Cup & Festival

BAKU — The Surinamese U15 national football team has recorded a successful run in the final stages of the FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival. Following their first victory against Brunei on Wednesday, the team secured two additional wins on Thursday, defeating Saint Lucia 3-2 and the Solomon Islands 4-1. Head coach Orfeo Brondenstein expressed satisfaction with the day’s results, though he noted that there is still room for improvement. Looking ahead to Friday’s final against Barbados, Brondenstein emphasized the need for a high-level performance. “Barbados will not be easy tomorrow. It is a physically strong team,” he stated. In the first match on Thursday morning, Suriname faced Saint Lucia. Goals from Dencio Pikientio, Prefor Amoko, and Idestino Bodjie secured a narrow 3-2 victory. Brondenstein noted that he had warned his players about the opponent’s desire for revenge, given a previous 7-1 victory by the Surinamese U14 team against the same side. While Brondenstein felt Suriname controlled the match, he pointed to finishing as a recurring issue, noting that the team failed to capitalize on several opportunities. In the second match against the Solomon Islands, Suriname emerged with a 4-1 win, with Jismaël Sallons scoring twice, and Jermezio Forster and Kenneth Saiman adding one goal each. Brondenstein observed that while the Solomon Islands possessed speed, they lacked physical strength and were unable to maintain early pressure. Despite the win, the coach expressed concern over a lapse in concentration that allowed the Solomon Islands to score just before halftime. During the break, Brondenstein urged his players to approach the second half with more seriousness to avoid a potential draw and the uncertainty of a penalty shootout. The team responded by scoring two additional goals in the second half to secure the victory.
