Police at Jinja Road have taken a 33-year-old driver into custody following a fatal collision that resulted in the death of a motorcycle rider and injuries to three school children. The incident occurred on Friday, September 18, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m. near Muggies Hotel on the Mutungo-Biina Road in Kampala’s Nakawa Division.
Authorities identified the driver as Mulema Dennis, a resident of Mutungo-Biina, who was operating a white Toyota Hilux Double Cabin with registration number UA 945EW. According to police reports, the vehicle collided with a motorcycle, registration number UMA 530LD, operated by 22-year-old Muhindo Reagan of Kasokoso, Wakiso District.
Reagan died at the scene of the crash. The three passengers on the motorcycle, pupils of Kiswa Primary School aged between seven and 13, sustained serious injuries while en route to their school in Bugolobi. They were transported to Mulago Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Preliminary findings suggest that the Toyota Hilux was traveling from Biina toward Mutungo when the collision occurred. Police have cited suspected careless driving as a contributing factor, though an investigation into the specific circumstances of the crash remains ongoing. Dennis remains in police custody as the inquiry proceeds.
In response to the incident, law enforcement officials have issued a reminder to all road users to adhere to traffic regulations and exercise caution to improve road safety.
